A Taang Story Part 3

"Why were you----? With her----?" Katara managed to say.
"Uh, I just remembered I have to help Sokka with that—thing," Aang spoke nervously.
"I thought you liked me! You have always liked me!"
"I'm sorry, Katara."
"Sorry for what!?" she yelled bitterly.
"I'm sorry you're upset."
"I'm not upset! Why would I be upset? Huh? I'm not jealous or anything!"
"You're kind of acting like you are…"
Katara then, crossed her arms and turned her back to the Avatar.
"Ummmm. I better go see how Toph's doing," Aang said frantically.
"Wow! When did this become an episode of the Toph Show!?" Katara screamed between tears.
Aang quickly evaded the area as soon as possible.
"Umph! Sorry Sokka, I didn't see you," the Airbender said as the two collided.
"No worries. Why is my sister crying?"
"Is she crying? I didn't know she was crying. Who cries anyway? Heh. Heh. I have to go now…" blurted the monk.
"Uh, right." Sokka replied.
Aang rushed past the Water Tribe warrior, bending air as he went. When he finally reached Toph's solid stone tent Aang couldn't bring himself to bend open the door or even to knock.
"Come in, Twinkle Toes. I can feel you out there." came a voice from within the rock walls. The front wall disappeared into the earth beneath it. The young Airbender walked in cautiously; not knowing whether to stop and turn back or stay. He sat down on the cold dirt floor facing his Earthbending teacher in the darkness.
"So-----" said Aang.
"How's Lady Fancy Britches over there takin' it?" the blind bandit questioned.
"Bad, very bad."
"So, what's up?"
"Huh?" said Aang, confused.
"What just happened; you know-- out there?"
"I like you, but more than normal."
A subtle, but at the same time cocky smile sprouted across Toph's face as she said, "So what are you going to do about it?" Aang leaned in nervously and gave her a peck on the cheek. "That's all I get?" Toph said in an aggressive-joking way. Once again the airbender leaned, but this time he gave her a real kiss, not on the cheek, on her fragile lips. Toph ended the kiss with a question; "So what are we gonna' tell Sokka?"
